My Antonia Book Discussion

Wednesday, October 24, 2007
Niobrara County Library
3:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.

Plan to attend a book discussion about Willa Cather's "My Antonia."

Wednesday, October 24 Patty Kessler will lead discussions at 3:30 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m., plan to attend one or both!

Patty Kessler, a native of southeastern Wyoming, is a graduate of the American Studies Program at the University of Wyoming and an instructor of History and American Studies at Laramie County Community College--Albany County Campus.

It has been almost twenty years since Willa Cather's works fired her imagination and launched her into her graduate work in American Studies.

Willa Cather, like Kessler and all citizens of the Plains, loved trees. They were Cather's inspiration for the following quote from O Pioneers: "I like trees because they seem more resigned to the way they live than other things do" - which seems to sum up how many of us eventually come to think about our lives.

Kessler's favorite works by Cather are My Antonia and O Pioneers.

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA presents the Big Read in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest. The Big Read: Wyoming reads My Antonia is a project of the Wyoming Center for the Book, in partnership with Wyoming libraries and the Wyoming School-University Partnership, and with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Wyoming Community Foundation and the Kellogg Foundation.
