National County Government Week is being celebrated by Niobrara County this week. Did you realize that the library is governed by a five member Board of Trustees that are appointed by the County Commissioners? Library Board members are non-paid volunteers who can serve up to two three-year terms. Current members are: Chairman, Lisa Pischel; Treasurer, Linda Decker; Secretary, Carol Kilmer and members Pat Bruch and Liz Kaltenheuser. The Board of Trustees is entrusted with allocating funding and overseeing the policies and operation of the library. They give countless hours, so please give them your thanks next time you see one of them.

The bulk of library funding is from the county mill levy, this current fiscal year the library was allocated 1.45 mills which was budgeted at $82,618. Additional income from other sources and grants brought the operating budget to $182,770. This includes funds from the Wyoming Legislative Library Funding Amendment (2006) which was earmarked for materials (books, Books on CD, DVD's, magazines, etc.) - have you noticed all the new items? The budget also included grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wyoming State Library, the federal E-Rate program and the NCSD Recreation District as well as funds that are generated in the library such as overdue fees. If you have questions or ideas about library operations please don't hesitate to contact a library board member.

New books include the fiction titles "A Marked Man" by Stella Cameron, "Bad Blood" by Linda Fairstein , "The Drowning Man" by Margaret Coel, "Family Tree" by Barbara Delinsky, "High Profile" by Robert B. Parker and "Natural Born Charmer" by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

New non-fiction includes "How to See Yourself as You Really Are" by Dalai Lama, "The Hallelujah Diet" by George Malkmus and "The New Rules of Marriage: What You Need to Know to Make Love Work" by Terrence Real.
