NIOBRARA COUNTY LIBRARY ANNOUNCES A READING AND DISCUSSION PROGRAM OF PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING BOOKS

Starting in September, the Niobrara County Library will host "Classic Views of American Life," a reading and discussion series in the Wyoming Humanities Council's Reading Wyoming program. The discussion group meets in the library on September 5, October 10, November 7 and December 5 at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Space is limited so please call (334.3490) or stop by the library to register and borrow books.

Participants will read and discuss "The Way West" by A. B. Guthrie (Pulitzer Prize, 1950), "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker (Pulitzer Prize, 1983), "A Thousand Acres" by Jane Smiley (Pulitzer Prize, 1992) and "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck (Pulitzer Prize, 1940). The Pulitzer Prize for fiction is awarded annually for the most distinguished book-length work by an American author, preferably dealing with American life. These books represent different historical periods, geographic regions, and ethnocultural contexts.

Wayne Deahl, Division Chair of the Arts, Humanities, Social & Behavioral Sciences and a member of the English faculty at Eastern Wyoming College, will lead the discussions.

The program is sponsored locally by the Niobrara County Library and the Wyoming Humanities Council. Reading Wyoming provides reading and discussion series to nonprofit organizations around the state and is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. For more information on the council's programs, call 307-721-9243 or visit the council's Web site at www.uwyo.edu/humanities.
