Almost 60 children attended the first of three RIF programs at the library last week. FBLA members, Bailey Bridge and Kyle Herder performed in the skit that starred Dyann Diercks as "Amelia Bedelia." Several high school students assisted younger children with their craft and everyone took home a book for their very own. The Friends of the Library will host the next program on Wednesday, March 12 at 6:30. Watch for more details.
The film "We Own the Night" will be shown at the library on Wednesday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m. At the height of the bloody 1980s struggle between New York City police and the Russian mob, a family finds themselves being torn apart. Joseph, a police officer, tries to convince his brother Bobby, a coke-sniffing club owner, to turn informant for him. When an unsavory club regular shoots Joseph during a drug raid Bobby nervously agrees to infiltrate the mafia operation as an undercover man. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg and Eva Mendes and is 117 minutes.
A new fiction book is "Blue Heaven" by Wyoming author, C.J. Box. Fleeing from the people, whom they witnessed committing murder, 12-year-old Annie and her brother, William, escape into the Idaho woods, pursued by the killers and a group of dirty cops.
Other new fiction books include "The Color of the Law" by Mark Gimenz, "The Winter Rose" by Jennifer Donnelly, "Saturday's Child" by Ray Banks, "Firefly Rain" by Richard Dansky and "Dangerous Past" by A.E. Ebbers.
New adult non-fiction books are "Born Standing Up: a Comic's Life" by Steve Martin, "Change Your Heart, Change Your Life: How Changing What you Believe Will Give You the Great Life You've Always Wanted" by Dr. Gary Smalley and "Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Cookbook" by Peter H. Gott, M.D.
A new young adult book is "Repossessed" by A.M. Jenkins.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has this new chapter books "The Secret of the Mask" by Gertrude Chandler Warner and "The Wednesday Wars" by Gary D. Schmidt.
New picture books are "The Very Ugly Bug" by Liz Pichon, "A Mama for Owen" by Marion Dane Bauer, "The Lonely Moose" by John Segal and "Good Boy, Fergus!" by David Shannon.
"Colors" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 28. Storyhour is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
