There is still space available in the 4th Annual Texas Hold’em Tournament which will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds as part of the Legend of Rawhide activities. The entry fee is $35 and the first 50 paid players are eligible for cash winnings - space is limited. Payment can be made at the library or online via credit card by going to http://niobraracountylibrary.org. This event is a fundraiser sponsored by the Niobrara County Library Foundation to raise endowment funds. “Surf’s Up” will be shown at the library on Thursday, July 17 at 1 p.m. Come join Cody, a Rockhopper penguin, as he journeys from his home in Shiverpool, Antarctica, to take part in the Big Z Memorial Surf-Off on a beautiful Pen Gu Island. During his adventure he meets many new friends. The film is PG and is 85 minutes.

A new western fiction novel for adults is “Many a River” by Elmer Kelton. The Barfield brothers, Jeffery and Todd, orphaned when their parents are killed by Comanches, have crossed many rivers, but are destined to be reunited and to discover how their separate lives have changed them.

Other new fiction books are “Blood Noir” by Laurell K. Hamilton, “Shadow of Power” by Steve Martini, “The Snow Queen” by Mercedes Lackey, “Death and Honor” by W. E. B. Griffith and “Blue Smoke and Murder” by Elizabeth Lowell.

New non-fiction includes “Medical Myths That Can Kill You: and the 100 Truths That Will Save, Extend, and Improve Your Life” by Nacny L. Snyderman, “How to Really Stink at Golf” by Jeff Foxworthy and “Stone Designs for the Home” by John T. Morris.

A new young adult book is “Deadline” by Chris Crutcher.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new chapter books: “Minute Mysteries 2: More Stories to Solve” by Teri Witkowski and “Ever” by Gail Carson Levine. New picture books are “More Please” by Nancy Cadjan and “My Teeth” by Richard Steckel.

“Waiting for Wings" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 and Thursday, July 17, 2008.

Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten throughout the year.
