Registration is now being taken for the fall book discussion series, “Living Between Fences.” This series begins on Wednesday, September 3 and concludes on December 3. Books include: House of Sand and Fog, Snow Falling on Cedars, Tortilla Curtain and The Work of Wolves. For more information stop by the library or call 334-3490.
Have you ever misplaced anything? This perturbing state of affairs has a very simple explanation . . . The Borrowers. This film will be shown on Thursday, August 14 at 1 p.m. Borrowers reside under the floorboards of our homes, taking great pains to go undetected as they ingeniously procure and live off of borrowed items. But a young boy befriends the Borrowers and they band together to save their home when an evil banker (John Goodman) plans to demolish it. We’ll provide the popcorn, bring your own drink!
Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 9 at 8 a.m.! The Niobrara County Library Foundation will be coordinating a yard sale that will feature items from the Elenor Johnson estate as well as items from others at 506 S. Pine and the Episcopal Church.
A new fiction book for adults is “A Mile in My Flip-flops” by Melody Carlson. Gretchen Hanover decides to become a first-time house flipper. She’ll take out a short-term loan, buy a fixer-upper, renovate it, resell it, and use the profit to buy an adorable house of her own. What could be easier?
Other new fiction books are “Tailspin” by Catherine Coulter, “The Betrayal: the Lost Life of Jesus” by Kathleen O’Neal Gear, “The Broken Window” by Jeffery Deaver, “No Choice But Seduction” by Johanna Lindsey and “Sail” by James Patterson.
New nonfiction includes “The Murder of Little Miss” by Shelia Kimmell, “Books: a Memoir” by Larry McMurtry and “Ghosts Among Us: Uncovering the Truth About the Other Side” by James Van Praagh.
New young adult books are “The Coffin Club” by Ellen Schreiber and “Blood Beast” by Darren Shan.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new books: “Lost and Found” by Andrew Clements, “Bat’s Big Game” by Margaret Read MacDonald, “A Princess, A Pirate, and One Wild Brother” by Cornelia Funke and “Elephant’s Never Forget” by Anushka Ravishankar.
“A Day at the Beach" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 and Thursday, August 14, 2008. Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten throughout the year.
