Krispy Kreme doughnuts will again be available! Call the library, 334-3490 to secure your order. Pick-up will be Friday, October 17!

Wednesday, October 15 plan to attend Food @ the Library at 5:30 p.m. “Grains and the Energy Connection” will be the theme and Shirley Huizenga, Cent$ible Nutrition educator will offer tips and ideas for building your energy stores using readily available grains. Call 334-3490 if you are planning on attending so we can be sure there is plenty of food!

The library subscribes to several newspapers and periodicals. One item that might be timely to mention is the The Value Line Investment Survey. This is a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks in 98 industries, the stock market, and the economy. The survey has three parts: Ratings & Reports, Summary & Index and Selection and Opinion. Value Line is available for use in the library.

The library will host songwriter and performer, Bryan Ragsdale on Wednesday, October 22. Bryan will conduct a songwriting workshop from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and then will perform at 7 at the library. Plan now to attend!

Jack Higgin’s newest book, “Rough Justice” is now available in large print as well as regular type. Blake Johnson of the United States and Harry Miller of Britain band together to stop a Russian officer from torching a mosque in troubled Kosovo – or rather Miller stops him with a bullet to the forehead. Their action will have considerable consequences for them and many others.

Other new fiction books are “Legally Dead” by Edna Buchanan, “The Bourne Sanction” by Eric Van Lustbader, “Damage Control” by J. A. Jance, “A Lady of Secret Devotion” by Tracie Peterson and “Blood Bond: The Hanging Road” by William W. Johnstone.

New adult non-fiction books are “Love As a Way of Life: Seven Keys to Transforming Every Aspect of Your Life” by Gary Chapman, “So Sexy So Soon: The New Sexualized Childhood and What Parents Can Do to Protect Their Kids” by Diane E. Lewis, Ph.D. and “Homeschooling: A Family’s Journey” by Gregory Millman.

New young adult books are “Indecent Proposal” by A.C. Arthur and “Flint: Choosing Sides” by Treasure Hernandez.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new books, “Something Invisible” by Siobhan Parkison, “Fablehaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague” by Brandon Mull, “A Girl Named Dan” by Dandi Daley MacKall, “Can You See What I See: On A Scary Night” by Walter Wick, “Brady & Melody” by Maureen Butterfly and “Fancy Nancy At the Museum” by Jane O’Conner.

“I'm NOT Afraid!" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 and Thursday, October 16, 2008. Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten throughout the year.
