The library will be closed on Sunday, January 18, 2009 and Monday, January 19, 2009 for Martin Luther King’s birthday observation. Regular hours resume at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20.

Tickets are still available for the Niobrara County Library Foundation’s Wine Tasting to be held on Sunday, January 18 from 3-5 p.m. at the Niobrara Country Club. American Journeys: Border Lines in American Life is the theme of a four-part film discussion series to be held at the Niobrara County Library beginning on Monday, January 26 at 6 p.m. with the film, “Easy Rider.” The film showings begin with a free light meal and also include audience discussion lead by Deane Tucker, Professor of Humanities at Chadron State College. Easy Rider, 1969 stars Dennis Hopper along with Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson and is also directed by Dennis Hopper. Young bikers, Billy and Wyatt stash money from their southern California dope sales in their gas-tank and take off on a cross country odyssey.

Cotton Malone, protagonist in Steve Berry’s new novel “The Charlemagne Pursuit,” knew from the Navy’s account that his father’s submarine had been lost nearly 40 years ago. After spending his life in service, he finally asked for the classified report on the USS Blazek. The file had barely been passed to him when trouble started. Stop by or call to reserve this fast and compelling read!

Other new fiction books include “The Darkest Pleasure” by Gena Showalter, “Foul Play” by Janet Evanovich, “When the Soul Mends” by Cindy Woodsmall, “One Perfect Day” by Lauraine Snelling and “The Bodies Left Behind” by Jeffery Deaver.

New non-fiction includes “A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity” by Bill O’Reilly, “A Love That Heals” by Angie Winans and “Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America” by Mike Huckabee.

A new young adult book is “Norman” by William Nicholson.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books “Mysterious Mammoths” by Joseph Kchodl, “Lady’s Big Surprise” by JoAnne S. Dawson and “Cheat Sheet” by Nancy Krulik. New easy titles are “Port of Spies” by Brian James, “Teeny Tiny Ernest” by Laura T. Barnes and “Chestnut” by Constance W. McGeorge.

Penguins! is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, January 20 and Thursday, January 22. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten
