The library will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2009 in observance of July 4th. Regular hours resume at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009.

The Niobrara County Library Foundation will be serving St. George’s Episcopal Church’s Mustard Seed dinner on Wednesday, July 1 from 5-7 p.m. Plan to stop by for hamburgers, hot dogs and brauts.

The NCLF Annual No-Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 11 a.m. Sign up by stopping by the library or calling Tom Dooper, 334-2013 or 334-2500 or Lisa Pischel, 334-2532. The event will be held at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds and lunch is included for players. Lunch will be available for the public for $5.00.

Mark your calendar now for the upcoming program with Wyoming author, Craig Johnson. Johnson, author of the Walt Longmire mystery series will be at the library on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. His recently released book, “Dark Horse” will be available for purchase and for signing. If you haven’t yet read him be sure to stop in and check one out!

A new summer read is “Summer on Blossom Street” by Debbie Macomber. Knitting and life – they’re both about beginnings and endings. That’s why it made sense for Lydia Guetz, owner of A Good Yarn, to offer a class called Knit to Quit. It’s for people who want to quit something… or someone.

Other new fiction books include “Wicked Prey” by John Sandford, “Vision in White” by Nora Roberts, “Brimstone” by Robert B. Parker, “The Last Child” by John Hart, “At Last Comes Love” by Mary Balogh and “Cemetery Dance” by Douglas Preston.

New non-fiction books are “A Weed by Any Other Name: the Virtues of a Messy Lawn or Learning to Love the Plants We Don’t Love” by Nancy Gift, “Up Till Now: the Autobiography” by William Shatner and “Alternative Energy for Dummies” by Rik DeGunther.

“The Time Paradox” by Eoin Colfer is one of many new young adult books added to the collection.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these titles “Lady Margaret’s Ghost” by Elizabeth McDavid Jones, “The Great Detective Race” by Gertrude Chandler Warner and “Chrissa” by Mary Casanova. Also available are: “Horse in the House” by Erica Silverman, “Batman’s Friends and Foes” by Catherine Hapka and “Spiderman Versus Kraven” by Susan Hill.


"Wild West" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, July 7 and Thursday, July 9. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
