You are invited to “Celebrate Niobrara County” on Friday, August 7th. The celebration will be held on the library lawn and in the Lusk State Bank parking lot. The free evening will include a light meal at 6 p.m., speeches and other activities celebrating meeting the Wyoming Public Library Endowment 3: 1 Challenge. Performer Kerry Grombacher will entertain with music beginning at 7 p.m. Plan now to come and enjoy an evening dedicated to Niobrara County!

“Race to Witch Mountain” is the final afternoon movie of the summer and it will be shown on Thursday, August 13 at 1 p.m. This family action-adventure will take you on breathtaking chases and close calls and is rated PG. The 99 minute Walt Disney film stars Dwayne Johnson, Ciaran Hinds and AnnaSophia Robb. Popcorn will be provided but bring your own drink.

A new suspense book is “The Scarecrow” by Michael Connelly. Jack McEvoy, who has been forced to take a buy-out and only has a few days left as a crime reporter on the Los Angeles Times, is suddenly on the biggest story that he’s had since “The Poet” crossed his path. However, this killer knows Jack is coming and he’s waiting for him. This title is also available as a Book on CD, call now to reserve!

Other new fiction books include “Right Next Door” by Debbie Macomber, “Thy Brother’s Wife” by Andrew M. Greeley, “Harbor Lights” by Sherryl Woods and “The Thief of Time” by John Boyne.

New non-fiction includes “A Failure of Capitalism: the Crisis of ’08 and the Descent into Depression”by Richard A. Posner and “The State of Jones: the Small Southern County that Seceded From the Confederacy” by Sally Jenkins.

New books for the young adults are “A Love like Lily” by Kay Lynn Magnum and “If the Witness Lied” by Caroline B. Cooney.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new titles “Felicity the Friday Fairy”<,i> by Daisy Meadows, “Ragweed” by Avi and “Lucky Breaks” by Susan Patron. New picture books include “Toy Story” by Melanie Zanoza, “Super Sleuths” by Julia Lobo and “Gone with the Wand” by Margie Palatine.

"Surf's Up!" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 13. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
