How much do your appliances cost you each month? Are they worth replacing? You can find out this information by checking out the “Kill A Watt EZ” monitor now available at the library. This helpful device was donated to the library by the Niobrara Electric Association. You can calculate your electrical expenses by the day, week, month, even an entire year. Also check the quality of your power by monitoring voltage, line frequency and power factor. Now you´ll know if it is time for a new refrigerator or if that old air conditioner is still saving you money. Stop in and check it out! A more in-depth program about energy efficiency will be held at a later date.

The latest book by Dan Brown is “The Lost Symbol.” Harvard Symbologist Robert Langdon is to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival a disturbing object –artfully encoded with 5 symbols- is discovered. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of esoteric wisdom. When his friend and mentor, Peter Solomon is kidnapped Langdon knows that he must accept the mystical invitation and follow where it leads him.

Other new fiction books include “Drawing Blood” by Andrea Kane, “The Christmas Dog” by Melody Carlson, “Stardust” by Joseph Kanon, “Storm of Shadows” by Christina Dodd and “Fools Rush In” by Janice Thompson.

New adult non-fiction books are “The Hardin Affair: Love and Espionage during the Great War” by James David Robenalt, “Where Men Win Glory: the Odyssey of Pat Tillman” by Jon Krakauer and “Journeys: Stories Our Bodies Can Tell” by James Nemee.

“Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins is now available in the young adult section.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior titles: “Sent” by Margaret Peterson Haddix, “Meet Rebecca” by Jacqueline Dembar Greene and “The Buried Biscuits” by Darrel Odgers. New picture books include “Luke Skywalker’s Amazing Story” by Simon Beecroft, “Country Girl” by Kate Egan and “Diego’s Great Dinosaur Rescue” by Shelia Sweeny Higginson.
