Remember the library will be closed on December 31, 2009 through January 3, 2010 for the New Year’s holiday. Happy New Year!

The winter afterschool programs featuring Puppets! will begin on Tuesday, January 5 for first and second grade children and on Thursday, January 7 for children in the third, fourth and fifth grades. These programs are filled with stories, activities and crafts featuring puppets and will continue through the last week of February. For more information or to register your children stop by the library or call 334-3490.

Jeff Shaara’s newest novel, “No Less Than Victory” is now available in CD book format as well as print. This novel of World War II defines the spirit of the soldier and the horror of a mad man’s dreams. It presents an riveting account of the Battle of the Bulge through the eyes of Eisenhower, Patton and the young G.I.’s, who struggled face-to-face with their enemy.

Other new books include “Family Album” by Penelope Lively, “The Lacuna” by Barbara Kingsolver, “The Widow’s Revenge” by James D. Doss, “Ice” by Linda Howard and “New York” by Edward Rutherford. New young adult fiction includes: “Fire” by Kristin Cashore and “Carpe Corpus” by Rachel Caine.

New adult non-fiction includes “Horses and Homes” by Jennifer Jordon, “The Treehouse Book” by Candida Collins, “Tao Te Ching: a Book About the Way and the Power of the Way” by La Tzu and “Manhood for Amateurs: the Pleasures and Regrets of a Husband, Father, and Son” by Michael Chabon.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new titles: “Land Keep” by J. Scott Savage, “The Great Death” by John Smelcer and “Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary” by Brandon Mull. Also available are “First Ballet” by Dianna Caswell, “What Sisters Do Best/What Brothers Do Best” by Laura Numeroff and “Olivia Forms a Band” by Ian Falconer.

"Snowmen!" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, January 5 and Thursday, January 7. This weekly program is held from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
