In celebration of Niobrara County Reads the Friends of the Library will present “The Tall Tale of Matty Bow” on Wednesday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. This RIF program will be presented by puppeteer Markie Scholz and spins a tall tale of the Dakota Territory when the West was wild and free. Children will all receive their own book and snacks will also be provided. This program is funded in part by grants from the Niobrara Recreation District, the Wyoming Arts Council through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

A new fiction book is “Remarkable Creatures” by Tracy Chevalier. From the moment Mary Anning was struck by lightning when she was a baby, she’s been different. On the windswept beaches of the English coast she discovers she has a unique gift: “the eye” to spot fossils no one else can see. When she uncovers an unusual fossilized skeleton in the cliffs near home, she sits the religious fathers on edge, the townspeople to gossiping and the scientific world alight.

Other new fiction books include “I, Sniper” by Stephen Hunter, “A Matter of Class” by Mary Balogh, “Noah’s Compass” by Anne Tyler, “Impact” by Douglas Preston, “Sizzle” by Julie Garwood and “The Hidden Flame” by Davis Bunn. New young adult fiction includes: “Leviathan” by Scott Westerfeld and “Rogue’s Home” by Hilari Bell.

New non-fiction books are “Drive: the Surprising Truth about What Motivates Us” by David H. Pink, “Love & War: Finding the Marriage You’ve Dreamed of” by John Eldredge and “Your Kids Are Your Fault: a Guide For Raising Responsible, Productive Adults” by Larry Winget.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new chapter books: “Dandelion Fire” by N. D. Wilson, “Save at Home” by Mike Lupia and “The Unfinished Angel” by Sharon Creech. New picture books are “Pumpkin Soup” by Helen Cooper, “Olivia Acts Out” by Jodie Shepherd and “Archie and the Pirates” by Marc Rosenthal.

"Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 4. This weekly program is held from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
