Thursday, August 12 the film, “Gold Retrievers” will be shown at the library. The perfect summer for twelve-year old Josh and his dog, Bosco, is threatened when Hector opens a megastore in town and Josh’s family faces being uprooted in foreclosure. Still, hope rebounds and the summer offers one last adventure as a mischievous Bosco uncovers a mysterious, golden medallion with clues leading to a fabled Conquistador treasure… this family approved film is 90 minutes.
A new suspense book is “The Last Surgeon” by Michael Palmer. Everyone told Gillian Coates that her sister’s death was suicide. Everyone told Dr. Nick Garrity that his best friend, Lieutenant Umberto Vasquez had simply disappeared. Neither Gillian nor Nick believe it, and soon they discover a chilling connection between the two events… a common denominator that will lead the killer to the next victim….and the last surgeon.
Other new fiction books include “Diamond Bay” by Linda Howard, “The Rule of Nine” by Steve Martini, “Pray for Silence” by Linda Castillo, “Far Cry” by John Harvey, “Dead in the Family” by Charlaine Harris and “Tempt Me at Midnight” by Lisa Kleypas.
New nonfiction include: “Rejuvenation: Using the Power of Light to Increase Vitality, Energy, and Healing” by Dr. Lawrence DelRe, “On Thin Ice: Breakdowns, White-outs, and Survival on the World’s Deadliest Roads” by Hugh Rowland and “The Great Depression: a Diary” by Benjamin Roth.
New books for the young adult are “The Blade of the Shattered Hope” and “The Hunt for the Dark Infinity” by James Dasher along with “The Kings of Clonmel” by John Flanagan.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new books: “The Case of the Coyote Invasion” by John R. Erickson, “Join the Rebels” by Catherine Saunders, “Ooh La La! It’s a Beautiful Day” by Jane O’Connor and “City Dog, Country Frog” by Mo Willems.
"Lizards" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, August 10 and Thursday, August 12. This weekly program is held from 10 to 11 a.m. for children age three through kindergarten. Effective September 1, 2010 we are returning to the once-a-week Storyhour format due to the decline in children in this age group, Storyhour will be held each Tuesday and the Thursday program will be discontinued.
