The library will be closed on Monday, January 17, 2011 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday and Wyoming Equality Day. Regular hours resume on Tuesday, January 18.

The Niobrara County Library Foundation will be hosting a Wine Tasting on Sunday, January 17 from 2-5 p.m. at the Niobrara Country Club. Tickets are $30 and include the opportunity to taste and try different wines, cheeses and a variety of chocolates as well as other hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are available at the library or from foundation members.

The “Steed Reads Festival” begins with “The Silver Stallion” which will be shown on Wednesday, January 19 at 2 p.m. This G rated film is 93 minutes and is the story of one man and his attempt to capture the legendary Silver Stallion. This is an early release day for the Lusk Elementary school.

The film festival continues on Monday, January 24 with the film, “The Horse Boy.” Join a Texas couple as they trek on horseback through Mongolia in an attempt to find healing for their two-year old autistic son, Rowan. A light meal will be a part of the evening and Deane Tucker will facilitate the discussion. The film is 93 minutes and unrated.

“The Last Time I Saw You” is the newest book by Elizabeth Berg. Onetime classmates meet up over the course of a weekend for their 40th high school class reunion. As they converge for their reunion dinner, 4 decades melt away; desires and personalities from their youth reemerge; and new discoveries are made. So much has happened to them all….and so much can still happen.

Other new fiction books include “First of State” by Robert Greer, “Buttons and Bones” by Monica Ferris, “Cross Fire” by James Patterson, “Penelope’s Daughter” by Laurel Corona, “Crazy” by William Blatty and “Chasing the Night” by Iris Johansen. Lauren Kate’s “Torment” is new for young adults.

New non-fiction books are “America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag” by Sarah Palin, “Badass: a Hard-Earned Guide to Living Life with Style and (the Right) Attitude” by Shannen Doherty and “Pitchforks and Torches: the Worst of the Worst from Beck, Bill, and Bush to Palin and the other Posturing Republicans” by Keith Olbermann.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, “Field Hockey Firsts” and “Linebacker Block” by Jake Maddox and “The Tale of Alice’s Quilt” by Jennifer Blomgren. The library has recently purchased all of the “We Both Read” books and these are now available to check out. These books promote parents and children reading together and are written in a way that makes it easy. Stop by and look them over today! Some of the titles include “The Frog Prince” by Sindy McKay, “The Mighty Little Lion Hunter” by Jana Carson and “How to Make a Pancake” by Dave Max.
