"Buddies" Tribute to Andrew Hammond
Tuesday, May 29, 2012 “Buddies” is now permanently housed on the west lawn at the Niobrara County Library as a memorial tribute to Andrew Hammond.
Artist, Jane DeDecker, of DeDecker Studio in Loveland, Colorado was commissioned to create the bronze statue by Andrew’s parents, Jay and Leslie Hammond. Leslie said, “The family of Andrew chose this sculpture as a way to culturally enrich our community and to recognize and honor all children and their ‘best friends.’ Andrew tried to be certain that he brought a smile to someone everyday and it is our hope that this statue will continue his legacy.”
A dedication of the statue will be held on Tuesday, August 7 from 1-3 p.m. at the library with a presentation by the artist Jane DeDecker.
The statue portrays Andrew as a young boy who was often seen with his pony, Little Joe, in tow. As a child growing up in Lusk, Andrew participated in many of the library programs and activities. The Niobrara County Library Foundation, Inc. received memorial funding for this lasting project. For more information about DeDecker Studio visit www.janededecker.com.
