Friday, July 27 at 6:30 p.m. the library will host Wyoming author, Craig Johnson. Johnson is the award-winning author of the Walt Longmire mystery series which currently includes eight books with As the Crow Flies being the most recent release. Other titles include: The Cold Dish, Death Without Company, Kindness Goes Unpunished, Another Man's Moccasins, Dark Horse, Junk Yard Dogs and Hell is Empty. The series follows Walt Longmire, a Wyoming sheriff and Vietnam veteran, his good friend Henry Standing Bear and Deputy Victoria Moretti as they uncover mysteries associated with Wyoming. The television series, Longmire debuted in June and is based on these books. Plan to attend!
Thursday, July 26 the Thursday Afternoon Movie will be "Hop." This 95 minute film is rated PG and blends state-of-the-art animation with live action. The movie begins at 1:30 p.m. The library provides the popcorn but you need to bring your own drink.
One of the newer titles is "The Lost Ones" by Ace Atkins. Fresh from 10 years as a U.S. Army ranger, Quinn Colson faces a new fight as the newly elected sheriff of Tibbehah County, Mississippi. When stolen U. S. Army rifles show up in the hands of a drug gang, he suspects an old high school buddy of being the supplier. But Quinn and his tough-as-nails deputy, Lilie Virgil soon discover that guns aren't the only thing being illegally traded, there is also a bootleg baby racket.
Other new fiction includes "Fifty Shades of Gray" by E. L. James, "God Don't Make No Mistakes" by Mary Monroe, "Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Imperative" by Eric Van Lustbader, "A Simple Murder" by Eleanor Kuhns, "Legends Lost" by Charlie Mac, "The Keeper" by Suzanne Woods Fisher, "The Risk Agent" by Ridley Pearson and "Summer Breeze" by Nancy Thayer. "Perfectly Invisible" by Kristin Billerbeck, "Prized" by Caragh M. O'Brien and "Masque of the Red Death" by Bethany Griffin are now on the YA shelf.
New non-fiction books are "Stop Eating Your Heart Out: the 21 Day Program to Free Yourself From Emotional Eating" by Meryl Hershey, "Enemies: a History of the FBI" by Tim Weiner and "Barack Obama: the Story" by David Maraniss.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new titles: "The Fire Ascending" by Chris D'Lacey, "Jake and Lily" by Jerry Spinelli and "Okay For Now" by Gary D. Schmidt. Some new picture books are "The Little Bully" by Beth Bracken, "Lacey Walker, Nonstop Talker" by Christianne Jones, and "Stop Snoring, Bernard!" by Zachariah Ohora.
