The library will be closed to observe Veteran’s Day on Monday, November 12, 2012. The library has many memoirs and books written by our country’s veterans; stop in and take a look. Regular hours resume at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Wednesday, November 14 an early release film, “Brave” will be shown at 1:45 p.m. Popcorn will be provided but children are asked to bring their own drink. “Brave” is rated PG and is 100 minutes long.
A new suspense book is “A Killing in the Hills” by Julia Keller. Three elderly men are gunned down over their coffee at a local diner in Acker’s Gap, West Virginia. Seemingly half the town witnessed the act, but no one seems to have gotten a good look at the shooter. Was it random? Was it drug related? One of the witnesses, Carla Elkins, teenage daughter of Bell Elkins, the prosecuting attorney, believes she might be able to help her mother do her job, but could Carla do more harm than good – in fact put her own life in danger?
Other new fiction books are “Taming the Wind” by Tracie Peterson, “Fallen Masters” by John Edward, “A Hidden Truth” by Judith Miller, “Hush Money” by Chuck Greaves, “The Forgetting Tree” by Tatjana Soli, “Frozen Heat” by Richard Castle, “The Stonecutter” by Camilla Lackberg and “Severe Clear” by Stuart Woods.
New titles for young adults include “The Hunt” created by L. J. Smith, “Anything But Ordinary” by Lara Avery and “True Blue” by Jane Smiley.
New non-fiction books are “Curious Behavior: Yawning, Laughing, Hiccupping, and Beyond” by Robert A. Provine, “I’m Your Man: the Life of Leonard Cohen” by Sylvie Simmons and “Hello, Goodbye, Hello: a Circle of 101 Remarkable Meetings” by Craig Brown.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new titles “A Whole Lot of Lucky” by Danette Haworth, “Fantastic Mr. Dahl” by Michael Rosen and “The Great Unexpected” by Sharon Creech. Some new picture books are “My Brave Year of Firsts: Tries, Sighs, and High Fives” by Jamie Lee Curtis, “The Monster’s Monster” by Patrick McDonnell, and “Tell Me about Your Day Today” by Mem Fox.
