The library will be closed on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 for New Year’s Day. Regular hours resume at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 2. Happy New Year!

Winter afterschool programs begin the week of January 6, 2014. Mondays will feature programs for Kindergarten aged children; Tuesdays for children in the first and second grades and Thursdays for third through fifth grades. It’s all about “Choosing Your Own Adventures” this session, call 334-3490 to register your children today. Space is limited, so call soon.

A new novel is “The Heavens Rise” by Christopher Rice. It has been a decade since the Delongpre family vanished near Bayou Rabineaux and still no one can explain the event of that dark and sweltering night. No one, except Niquette Delongpre, the survivor who ran away from the mangled stretch of guardrail on Highway 22…and kept on running.

Patrick Taylor’s “Fingal O’Reilly, Irish Doctor” is among new fiction along with “Ghost Gone Wild” by Carolyn Hart, “The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion” by Fannie Flagg, “Cross of Gold” by Tim Champlin, “Sins of the Flesh” by Colleen McCullough, “Outlaw” by Ted Dekker, “Takedown Twenty” by Janet Evanovich and “Merry and Bright” by Jill Shalvis. A new title for the young adult is “Nightmare City” by Andrew Klavan.

New non-fiction books are “Fifty Railroads That Changed the Course of History” by Bill Laws, “Tapping Into Wealth: How Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Can Help You Clear a Path to Making More Money” by Margaret M. Lynch and “The Reason For My Hope: Salvation” by Billy Graham.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books “Discover Nimbasa City” by Simcha Whitehill and “Attack of the Crocodiles” by Greg Farshtey. Some new easy titles include “The Twelve Days of Christmas” by Susan Jeffers and “Christmas Eve with Mrs. Claus” by M.P. Hueston.
