One of our newer novels is "Bittersweet" by Colleen McCullough. Because they were two sets of twins, the four Latimer sisters are close - yet each has her own dreams. As they step into womanhood at the beginning of the 20th century in New South Wales life holds limited prospects. Together they decide to enroll in a training program for nurses, a new option for women of their time. As they become immersed in hospital life and the demands of their work, each sister must make weighty decisions about what she values most. The results are sometimes happy, sometimes heartbreaking, but always - bittersweet.

Other new fiction books are "Wayfaring Stranger" by James Lee Burke, "The Tea Shop on Lavender Lane" by Sheila Roberts, "The Sweet Spot" by Stephanie Evanovich, "Dirty Work" by Gabriel Weston, "The Pickle Queen" by Deborah Smith, "Visions" by Kelley Armstrong, "The Lost Island" by Douglas Preston, "The Summer Wind" by Mary Alice Monroe and "The Illusionists" by Rosie Thomas. "The Pirate & the Guard" by Kiera Cass and "Magisterium" by Jeff Hirsch are among new YA books.

"Surviving Henry: Adventures in Loving a Canine Catastrophe" by Erin Taylor Young, "In the Kingdom of Ice: the Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeanette" by Hampton Sides and "Move On: When Mercy Meets Your Mess" by Vicki Courtney are some new non-fiction titles.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, "The Menagerie: Dragon on Trial" by Tui Sutherland, "Unstoppable" by Tim Green and "Secrets of the Manor, Beth's Story, 1914" by Adele Whitby. For our younger readers, check out "Pete the Cat, Too Cool for School" by James Dean, "George Flies South" by Simon James and "The Highway Rat" by Julia Donaldson.
