Congratulations Jim Tangney! Jim was the first place winner of the Niobrara County Library Foundation Texas Hold-em fundraiser. The Endowment fund continues to grow with events such as this and with each event we get a bit closer to our long-term goal of 1.5 million. As you know, the Kresge challenge was the first large step in endowment building for our library. Currently, the endowment fund has about $340,000.00 and all interest income from this money is reinvested to contribute to the long-term goal of stable funding for the library. Thank you all for contributing to this worthwhile project.

Children gathered over 300 counters during the "Dragons, Dreams & Daring Deeds" Summer Reading program. If participants were unable to attend the party last week be sure to stop by for your prizes. Also, "Hey Kids!" is underway, stop in to find out more!

"An Evening of Cinema" will be held on Wednesday, July 27 at 6:30 at the library. "Carol's Journey" is the story of Carol, a twelve-year old Spanish-American girl from New York. Carol travels with her mother to Spain in the spring of 1938, at the height of the Civil War. Separated from her beloved father, Carol arrives in her mother's home village and transforms the secretive family environment. Her innocence and rebellious nature drive her at first to reject a world that is at once new and foreign. But she soon journeys into adulthood through a friendship with Maruju, the village teacher, and a young local boy, Tomiche. This independent film is in Spanish with English subtitles.

New books in the adult library include "Two of a Kind" by Nora Roberts, "How Like an Angel" by Jack Driscoll, "Triumph of the Sun" by Wilbur Smith, "The Closers" by Michael Connelly, "The Garden of Eden" by Eve Adams, "The Raw Food Detox Diet" by Natalia Rose, "The Wet Engine" by Brian Doyle and "Molto Italiano" by Mario Batali.

For the young adult, there is "The Supernaturalist" by Eoin Colfer and
"The House on the Gulf" by Margaret Peterson Haddix.

Our junior readers will enjoy "The Witches of Bailiwick" by Sandra Forrester, "Nova Rocks" by Tea Emmesse, and "Carmen Dives In" by Linda Jones.

Our younger readers will enjoy "Why Epossumondas has No Hair on His Tail" by Coleen Salley.

"Elephants" is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, July 26, 2005. Storyhour is held every Tuesday throughout the year for children ages three through kindergarten.
