The library will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27, 2015 for the Thanksgiving holiday. On behalf of the NCL Staff, Board of Trustees, NCL Foundation and Friends of the Library board members thank you for your support of your county library! Happy Thanksgiving! Normal library hours resume on Monday, November 30 at 10 a.m.

"Food for Fines" continues through the month of November! The Niobrara County Library Board is pleased to offer this opportunity for people to clear their library fines and help stock the Food Pantry at the Niobrara Senior Center. One unexpired, non-perishable food item is equal to $1.50 of your local library fine. For more information stop by the library.

The final film in the "Images of Walking" series is "Meek's Cutoff" and will be shown on Monday, November 30 at 6 p.m. The year is 1845, the earliest days of the Oregon Trail, and a wagon team of three families has hired the mountain man Stephen Meek to guide them over the Cascade Mountains. Claiming to know a short cut, Meek leads the group on an unmarked path across the high plain desert, only to become lost in the dry rock and sage. Over the coming days, the emigrants must face the scourges of hunger, thirst and their own lack of faith in each others instincts for survival. When a Native American wanderer crosses their path, the emigrants are torn between their trust in a guide who has proven himself unreliable and a man who has always been seen as the natural enemy. "Meek's Cutoff" is rated PG and is 104 minutes. A light meal will be available.

A new book by Jan Karon is "Come Rain or Come Shine." Father Tim Kavanagh's adopted son, Dooley, has graduated from vet school and opened his own animal clinic. Since money is tight, Dooley and Lacy want to keep their wedding simple. They plan to do potluck instead of catering and the barn should be the perfect venue for seating family and friends. Plus an old friend has offered to bring his country band. Piece of cake - right?

Other new fiction books include "Chiricahua" by Will Henry, "Starlight on Willow Lake" by Susan Wiggs, "If You Only Knew" by Kristan Higgins, "Driving Heat" by Richard Castle, "Dance of the Bones" by J.A. Jance, "The Drowning" by Camilla Lackberg, "Make Me" by Lee Child, "The End Game" by Catherine Coulter and "Undercover" by Danielle Steel. New in the YA section is "The Jewel" by Amy Ewing and "Alive" by Scott Sigler.

"Thirty Million Words: Building a Child's Brain" by Dana Suskind is among new non-fiction along with "Prevail: Discover Your Strength in Hard Places" by Cindy Trimm and "Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel" by Carl Safina.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books: "Purple Nails and Puppy Tails" by Jill Santopolo, "The Ghost of Juniper Creek" by Grace Gilmore and "Nooks and Crannies" by Jessica Lawson. A few new easy titles include "A Frog in the Bog" by Karma Wilson, "Dewey Bob" by Judy Schachner and "The Little Shop of Monsters" by R.L. Stine.
