Plan now to stop by the library to view the photography exhibit of Lisa Shaw. "Behind the Lens" will be on display at the library October 17 through November 10. A reception with the artist will be held on Wednesday, October 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Shaw was born and raised in Wyoming and loves to capture the spirit of the West and the lifestyle she loves so much. Lisa is the manager of the Niobrara Conservation District and her photo business is a part-time adventure. Lisa is married to Rick Shaw and has two children, Denton and Riley.

"Prince Among Slaves" will be shown as part of the dinner and movie series, "A World Away" on Monday, October 24 at 6 p.m. In 1788 the slave ship Africa, set sail from West Africa and headed for America with its berth laden with a profitable but highly perishable cargo - hundreds of men, women and children bound in chains. Six months later the survivors were sold in Natchez, Mississippi. One of them, a 26-year-old man made a remarkable claim to the farmer who purchased him at the auction that he was an African prince and that his father would pay gold for his ransom. The offer was refused. This story made Abdul-Rahman the most famous African in America, attracting the support of powerful men such as President John Quincy Adams. After forty years of slavery, he finally reclaimed his freedom. A light meal will be available and Deane Tucker will facilitate the discussion of this 60 minute documentary.
