The library will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in observance of Independence Day. Normal library hours resume on Wednesday, July 5th from noon to 7 p.m.

The library will host a writing workshop entitled, “Writing Wyoming: Life on the Mountains and High Plains” with Lori Howe on Thursday, July 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. When participants leave the workshop they will have a strong framework and approach for writing creatively about matters of great importance to them as Wyoming citizens, drawing on their own knowledge and experience to add their voices critically and meaningfully to ongoing, community and state conversations—some, through the venue of publication. Howe is the author of “Cloudshade: Poems of the High Plains” and “Voices at Twilight: A Poet’s Guide to Wyoming Ghost Towns.” She has taught English and creative writing workshops for the last decade at the University of Wyoming and Laramie County Community College (Laramie and Cheyenne campuses).

Storyteller Indiana Bones will be at the library on Friday, July 7 at 2 p.m. with the program "Seven Legends of the Devils Tower." The story features the ancient Native American legend of seven young brothers who set out to play one of their favorite outdoor games and run into a "bear" of a problem. There will be ancient fossils to explore!

“Ominous” is Lisa Jackson’s latest novel and the second in her Wyoming series. The photograph showed three carefree and happy teenage girls whose lives were to be changed by the violence they experienced – and the vow of secrecy they took. 15 years later, Ruth and Shiloh have both returned to Prairie Creek, Wyoming where Kat is now a deputy sheriff. Putting that terrible night behind them had been impossible. Now a girl has disappeared – and a body has been found. Then a copy of that long-ago photo arrives in the mail, letting them know their abductor has not forgotten them.

Other new fiction books are “Marathon” by Brian Freeman, “Anything is Possible” by Elizabeth Strout, “The Last Good Cowboy" by Kate Pearce, “The Bunker” by Wayne Bosak, “Less Than a Treason” by Dana Stabenow, “Their Finest” Lissa Evans, “The Burial Hour” by Jeffrey Deaver, “Walking on My Grave” by Carolyn Hart and “Assassin’s fate” by Robin Hobb. The third book in the Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas, “A Court of Wings and Ruin” and is now available in the YA section.

“The Stranger in the Woods: the Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit” by Michael Finkel is among new non-fiction books. Also available are “Triple Crown Winner: the Earl Sande Saga, Tragedy to Triumph” by Richard J. Maturi and “The Sugar Detox Plan: the Essential 3-Step Plan for Breaking Your Sugar Habit” by Dr. Kurt Mosetter.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, “School of Laughs” by James Patterson, “The Road Home” by Catherine Hapka and “Hazy Bloom and the Tomorrow Power” by Jennifer Hamburg. Some of the newer easy titles include “How to Raise a Mom” by Jean Reagan, “Olivia the Spy” by Ian Falconer and “Cowboy Car” by Jeanie Franz Ransom.

There will be no Storyhour on Tuesday, July 4th as the library will be closed. Storyhour resumes on Tuesday, July 11. Call 334-3274 to hear a recorded story anytime. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
