Tuesday, October 3, Lusk native Rick Kaan will present the program, “Black Hills Stagecoach and Freight Wagon Routes” at the library at 6 p.m. The presentation encompasses the political, cultural, economic and topographical issues affecting the Stagecoach and Freight Wagon Routes into the Black Hills of South Dakota from Cheyenne, WY and Sydney, NE using timelines, maps, original photos and satellite imagery. Artist Barb Orr will have her art on display at the library during the month of October with a reception with the artist scheduled for Thursday, October 12 at 5 p.m. Art and horses have been Barb’s passions since she was in elementary school. She enjoys drawing, painting, photography, woodworking, sculpting, and carving. She taught special education for over twenty years while living in Arizona and always looked to incorporate her love of art and teaching together to reach her students. For fourteen years she spent her summers in Lusk, honing her art techniques. Since moving to Lusk full-time three years ago, she has entered her work in the Niobrara County Fair and won one Grand Champion and two Reserve Champion awards for her acrylics, plus numerous blue ribbons. Be sure to attend!

A new suspense novel is “Gone to Dust” by Matt Goldman. Maggie Somerville is found murdered in her bedroom, her body covered with dust from hundreds of emptied vacuum cleaner bags.
