Upcoming Friday afternoon movies are: “Cars 3” on April 20 and “Paddington 2” on April 27. The movies show at 1:35 p.m. and the library provides the popcorn; bring your own drink.


On Monday, April 30 the last film in the “Happy Endings: Overcoming Crisis” series will be shown at 6 p.m. A newspaper editor uses every trick in the book to keep his ace reporter ex-wife from remarrying in “His Girl Friday” starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. The film discussion series will be facilitated by Deane Tucker, PhD Chadron State College. A light meal will be available. Library programs are free and open to the public.


The library is pleased to have Willie LeClair return for a program on Tuesday, May 1 at 6 p.m. LeClair walks both worlds as an American Indian and an American Cowboy and has performed and lectured throughout the United States. Willie is knowledgeable in the traditional art of American Indian sign language and he remains one of the few American Indian Cowboys living in the west with American Indian traditional knowledge passed onto him. Mark your calendar now to attend this program.


A new selection to Oprah’s Book Club is “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones. Newlyweds Celestial and Roy are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He’s a young business executive and she’s an artist on the brink of an exciting career. Then their lives are ripped apart when Roy is arrested and sentenced to 12 years in prison for a crime Celestial knows he didn’t commit. Five years later Roy’s conviction is overturned, and he returns to Atlanta ready to resume their life together, Celestial is faced with a soul-wrenching decision: whether to let go or try and rebuild a marriage that has lost its underpinnings.


Other new fiction books are “The Kremlin’s Candidate” by Jason Matthews, “Bachelor Girl” by Kim van Alkemade, “The Bags of Tricks Affair” by Bill Pronzini, “Hello Stranger” by Lisa Kleypas, “Arms From the Sea” by Rich Sharpero, “True to You” by Jennifer Ryan, “The Deceivers” by Alex Berenson and “High Voltage” by Karen Marie Moning. “The Tangled Lands” by Paolo Bacigalupi and “The Belles” by Dhonielle Clayton are among new young adult titles.


New non-fiction includes “Finding the Edge: My Life on the Ice” by Karen Chen, “Quirky: the Remarkable Story of Traits, Foibles, and Genius of Breakthrough Innovators Who Changed the World” by Melissa A. Schilling and “My iPad for Seniors” by Michael Miller.


The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books “Supergifted” by Gordon Korman, “Dark Wyng” by Chris D’Lacey and a new series, “Puppy Pirates” by Erin Soderberg with titles like “Stowaway” and “X Marks the Spot.” A few of the newer easy titles include “Strega Nona’s Magic Lessons” by Tomie dePaola, “Valensteins (a love story)” by Ethan Long and “Pass the Ball, Mo!” by David A. Adler.


“Raining Petals!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for children age 3 through kindergarten. Call 334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
