Tuesday, September 11 Kerry Grombacher and Aspen Black will be performing at the library at 6 p.m. The show, Songs and Stories of the American West, kicks off the library’s year-long celebration of the Carnegie building which was completed in September 1919.

It’s time to order Krispy Kreme doughnuts! Call the library at 334-3490 to order for pick-up at the library on Thursday, September 27 at 7:30 a.m. $8.00 for glazed and $9.00 for mixed frosted.

During September Brent McQuery’s photography will be on display at the library with a reception to be held on Wednesday, September 19 at 5 p.m. Be sure to stop by and visit this exhibit!

“Chariot on the Mountain” a new novel by Jack Ford, is based on the true story of Kitty Payne who was born in slavery in 1816. Her biological father, Samuel Maddox, was also her master. On his death, his wife took Kitty and her children north and gave them their freedom. A gang of slave catchers, led by Samuel’s nephew, captured them and took them back to Virginia. Only after “complex court proceedings” does Kitty regain her freedom.

Other new fiction books include “Maze Master” by Kathleen O’Neal Gear, “When We Found Home” by Susan Mallery, “Orchid & The Wasp” by Caoilinn Hughes, “Rescued” by David Rosenfelt, “Dead Drift” by Dani Pettrey, “River of Redemption” by Ann H. Gabhart, “The King’s Witch” by Tracy Borman, “Skyline Riders” by Francis W. Hilton, “In Dreams Forgotten” by Tracie Peterson and “Minding the Light” by Suzanne Woods Fisher. New titles for the young adult are “Court of Shadows” by Madeline Roux and “Vicious” by V.E. Schwab.

“Bonner Brothers: Summer of 1946” by Larry L. Bonner is among new non-fiction along with “The Best Cook in the World: Tales from My Momma’s Table” by Rick Bragg and “Quench: Beat Fatigue, Drop Weight, and Heal Your Body through the New Science of Optimum Hydration” by Dana Cohen.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior titles, “Gorilla Grodd and the Primate Protocol” by Brandon T. Snider, “Home Safe Home” by Jake Maddox and “Roxie and the Hooligans at Buzzard’s Roost” by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. A few of the newer easy books include “Caillou at the Sugar Shack” by Carine Laforest, “Learning to Share” created by Neville Astley and “Sea Patrol to the Rescue” by Nate Novett.

“Community Helpers!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool aged children. Call 334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story, Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
