The Niobrara County Library Board of Trustees are offering patrons a chance to clear library fines by donating unexpired, non-perishable food; each item brought to the library can clear $1.50 of fines. Food will help to stock the food pantry at the Niobrara Senior Center which is available throughout the year for people in need. Call or stop by the library for more information. “Food for Fines” is available through the month of October.

The library will be hosting author, Kenny Wasserburger on Tuesday, October 9 at 6 p.m. “Die OST Front” is technically correct, carefully researched and a shooters novel of the highest level. The author, a Niobrara County native is a 5-time National BPCR Scoped Rifle Champion, a Oilpatch Lease Operator and former Coal Miner and makes his home in Gillette Wyoming.

Be sure to come by the library and check out the Crown & Cross Photography exhibit by photographer, Heather Irvine-Goddard during October. A reception with the artist will be held on Wednesday, October 10 at 5 p.m. Plan to stop by.

The movie, “Beethoven’s Big Break” will be showing at the library on Friday, October 5 at 1:35 p.m.; this early release film is rated PG and is 101 minutes. “Hotel Transylvania 3” will be shown on Friday, October 12 at 1:35 p.m. and is 120 minutes and rated PG. The library provides the popcorn; please bring your own drink!

A new novel by William Kent Krueger is “Desolation Mountain.” A private plane, carrying a senator and her family, crashes into Desolation Mountain in northern Minnesota during a storm and kills all on board; Stephen O’Connor realizes that the recurring visions he has been having have turned into a terrible reality. When the FBI arrives at the crash site they assume control and dismiss Stephen, his father, Cork, and the other responders. Unable to ignore the premonition that something worse is coming Stephen and Cork face growing threats as they attempt to get at the truth.

Other new fiction books “Canadian Red” by R.W. Stone, “Pieces of Her” by Karin Slaughter, “The Secret of the Irish Castle” by Santa Montefoire, “The Money Shot” by Stuart Woods, “Goodtime Cowboy” by Maisey Yates, “Tempted by Love” by Jennifer Ryan, “Go and Bury Your Dead” by Bill Brooks, “Shattered Silence” by Marta Perry and “Texas Free” by Janet Dailey. “Projekt 1065” by Alan Gratz and “Legendary” by Stephanie Garber are among new young adult titles.

New non-fiction titles are “Kind is the New Classy: the Power of Living Graciously” by Candace Cameron-Bure, “Herbal Remedies Handbook” by Andrew Chevallier and Guinness World Records, 2019.”

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior titles, “Secondhand Slice” by Jake Maddox, “The Joker and the Harley Quinn’s Justice League Jailhouse” by Louise Simonson and “Battle for Wakanda” by Brandon T. Snider. Some of the newer easy books are “Katie Blows Her Top” by Fran Manushkin, “Pete the Cat and the Cool Caterpillar” by James Dean, and “In My Life” by Carl Meister.

“Squirreling Away for Winter!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, Oct 9, 2018. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year. Have you tried calling Dial-A-Story? This 24/7 storyline is made possible by the Friends of the Library and can be reached by calling 307-334-3274.

Hoopla is a digital library that is available by using your library card and PIN, the app is available through most app stores. You can check out movies and television shows, audiobooks and music as well as ebooks and comics. Material can be downloaded to mobile devices or streamed through your computer.
