The library will host an artist reception with Hailey Bruegger of Hailey Bruegger Photography on Wednesday, February 6 at 5 p.m. Be sure to stop in and check out her images during the month of February.

Sunday, February 10 the library will host Harpist, Dave Shaul for a concert to be held at the Congregational Church. Shaul has been principal harpist with symphony orchestras in Arizona and California. A virtuoso performer on both folk and pedal harp, Dave not only performs but presents workshops and lectures on World harps, pan-Celtic, and Renaissance/Baroque harp music. Shaul’s harp styles range from Latin to European to Asian. Sunday’s concert will feature the pedal harp, Burmese harp, and cross harp. Violinist Kim Strand will join Shaul in several numbers. Plan now to attend this concert. Library programs are free and open to the public.

The second of three Reading is Fun (RIF) programs will be held on Wednesday, February 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the library. The Friends of the Library are pleased to present Meghan Casey and Rocky Mountain Puppets with a Valentine’s Day show that’s not to be missed! Children will be able to select their very own books to keep and a snack will also be served.

“Before We Were Strangers” is a new novel by Brenda Novak. When Sloane McBride was five, her mother disappeared and the official story was that she left. Sloane has always had doubts. She feels that she owes it to her mother to find out the truth. As she starts digging into the past, the question isn’t whether she can uncover what really happened….it’s what will remain of her family if she does?

Other new fiction books include “The Darling Dahlias and the Poinsettia Puzzle” by Susan Wittig Albert, “Robert B. Parker’s Blood Feud” by Mike Lupica, “Nine Must Die” by Lee E. Wells, “Searching For You” by Jody Hedlund, “Pandemic” by Robin Cook, “Stagecoach to Purgatory” by Peter Brandvolt, “Kingdom of the Blind” by Louise Penny, “Moon Dust Lake” by Davis Bunn and “McKinnon” by Johnny D. Boggs. Cassandra Clare’s “Queen of Air and Darkness” is among new young adult titles.

New nonfiction books are “Smoky the Brave: How a Feisty Yorkshire Terror Mascot Became a Comrade-in-Arms during World War II” by Damien Lewis, “The Geysers of Yellowstone” by T. Scott Bryan and “The Bullying Breakthrough: Real Help for Parents and Teachers of the Bullied, Bystanders, and Bullies” by Jonathan McKee.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, “My Father’s Words” by Patricia MacLachlan and “The Real McCoys: Two’s a Crowd” by Matthew Swanson. Some of the newer easy titles are “”Ghoul School” by Kevin O’Malley, “Good Rosie” by Kate DiCamillo, “Fire Truck Dreams” by Sharon Chriscoe and “Sloth at the Zoom” by Helaine Becker.

“Dinosaurs Love Libraries!” is the theme for Storyhour on February 5, 2019. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for children age 3 through kindergarten. Call 334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
