It’s time to register and pick up the first book in the fall book discussion series, “The Lighter Side.” “Dewey: the Small-Town Library Cat that Changed the World” is set to be discussed on Tuesday, September 3 at 6 p.m. The series is facilitated by Barb Baker.

Afterschool programs begin on Tuesday, August 27 for children in grades K-2. Call the library at 334-3490 to register! Tuesdays will be a fun exploration of animals, both in the wild and the Wild West! “The Wild Zoo” continues through October 29! On Thursdays children in the 3-6 grades will travel West in “Westward Ho – Discovering New Trails” through mountain men experiences, covered wagons and cattle drives! This program begins August 29 and continues through October 24. The programs begin right after school and are scheduled to end at 4:45 p.m. Space is limited so call to register soon!

The dinner and movie series, “The Lighter Side” kicks off on Monday, August 26 with the film, “Arsenic and Old Lace” at 6 p.m. Deane Tucker returns to facilitate the series and a light meal is available. Library programs are free and open to the public.

Jeffery Deaver’s latest novel is “The Never Game” and he has a new hero – Colter Shaw, an expert tracker, who makes a living as a “reward seeker”- traveling the country to help police solve crimes and private citizens locate missing persons. In “The Never Game” what seemed like a simple investigation thrusts him into the dark heart of America’s tech hub. The clues point to one video game with a troubled past… is a mad man bringing the game to life? Also available on cd and digitally through Overdrive/Libby.

Other new fiction books are “Dark Storm” by Karen Harper, “Lies Jane Austin Told Me” by Julia Wright, “Collusion” by Newt Gingrich, “Class Mom” by Laurie Gelman, “Murder She Meowed” by Liz Mugavero, “The Desert Rider” by L.P. Holmes, “Sisters of Summers End” by Lori Foster, “The Evil Queen” by Gena Showalter and “Backlash” by Brad Thor. A new title for the young adult is “One of Us is Lying” by Karen M. McManus.

New non-fiction titles are “Legal Guide for Starting and Running a Small Business” by Fred Steingold, “Life After Suicide: Finding Courage, Comfort, and Community After Unthinkable Loss” by Jennifer Ashton and Mark Levin’s “Unfreedom of the Press.”

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books “The Last Last-Day-of-Summer” by Lamar Giles, “A Kitten Named Tiger” by Holly Webb, “The Squatchicorns” by Ellen Potter and “Wedge of Fear” by Eugene M. Gagliano. Some new picture books are “Hamster Sitter Wanted” by Tracy Gunaratnam, “Koala Is Not a Bear” by Kristin L. Gray, “The Moon’s Time to Shine” by Scott Emmons and “See Zip Zap” by David Milgrim.

“Bruce and Friends!” is the theme for Storyhour on August 20, 2019. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool aged children.
