Alice Marie Podolak
Funeral services for Alice Marie Podolak, age 82, were held February 26, at Bader Funeral Home in Lusk, Wyo., with Rev. Delbert Dick officiating. Burial followed in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington, Wyo.
Mrs. Podolak died the evening of February 21, at her ranch home south of Lusk.
She was born December 11, 1911, near Crawford, Neb., the daughter of Howard and Helena Britton. In April of 1913, she moved with her parents by covered wagon to a homestead southwest of Van Tassell, Wyo. She was educated in the rural Goshen County schools and graduated from Torrington High School in 1928. After graduation, Alice worked in the Silas Harris General Store in Jay Em, Wyo. until she married Frank C. Podolak on December 9, 1931, in Hot Springs, S.D. In 1934 Alice and Frank spent six months in Chicago, Ill., where Frank attended Coyne Electrical School. From 1935 until April of 1937, they resided in Oakland, Calif., at which time they returned to the Podolak ranch in the Prairie Center community where Alice resided until her death.
Alice was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and Nana.
She was a partner, with her husband, in their ranching business as Polled Hereford breeders. Alice was a dedicated worker of the REA alongside her husband Frank. In later years, Alice enjoyed traveling with Frank to various parts of the United States. Her hobbies included her yard, rose bushes, and crocheting afghans for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, a grandson, Donald Ray Podolak, a sister, Ruth Brinkle and her son-in-law, Jerry Sturman.
Survivors include her son, Ronald and daughter, Janice Sturman of the family ranch, Lusk, Wyo.; three grandsons, Mark and Cody Sturman of the family ranch and Kent Sturman of Denver, Colo.; one granddaughter, Deborah Kay Podolak of Lusk, Wyo.; one great granddaughter, Jessie Lynne Sturman of Lusk, Wyo., three brothers, Lester Britton of Portland, Ore., Charles Britton of Baker, Ore. and Erle Britton of Mesa, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Memorials to the Lusk Ambulance Service, the Niobrara Memorial Hospital, the Lusk Senior Center or the American Missionary Fellowship would be appreciated by the family.
Bader Funeral Home of Lusk, Wyo. was in charge of the arrangements.
