Mrs. Ellis Johnson Passes Away Monday
On Monday morning of this week, Mrs. Ellis Johnson, old time resident of Lusk and one of the pioneers of Niobrara county, passed away at her home in Seattle, Wash. Death was largely due to her advance age and hardening of the liver.
Mrs. Johnson was the wife of Ellis Johnson who preceeded her to the grave by several years. She came to the United States from Norway in her younger days, coming to Lusk from Columbus, Neb., with her husband, Ellis Johnson, in 1884. When they first entered in business here they had the distinction of occupying the only frame business house in town, Lusk at that time being a tent city.
Her death will be deeply felt in this city as she was well remembered by the old timers and her christian character endeared her to a host of friends.
She leaves to mourn her passing, Alfred and Lawrence Johnson, two prominent ranchers, besides four daughters, the Misses Mary, Nora, Emma and Ella Johnson, who resided in Seattle with their mother.
The body will arrive Saturday morning at 10:40 and burial will be direct from the train to the Lusk cemetery.
