Harold Dean Fosher, 88 years of age, passed away at Niobrara Community Hospital Tue., Aug. 2, 2016, after a long illness.

He was born at home in Manville, Wyo. to Harold and Vernal (Lamb) Fosher February 20, 1928.

Dean grew up the family ranch south of Manville during the Great Depression. Here he learned the value of a strong work ethic, frugality, and education. Dean spent his life learning and continued browsing through farm and ranch related periodicals until the last year of his life.

He attended Manville High School and was active in 4-H. He was a good student and graduated in 1947. For the next few years he worked in and around Lusk while continuing to help his folks on the ranch. Dean used this time to contemplate and plan for the future. He enrolled in the University of Wyoming, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with honors 1957.

That same year he married Glenda Krewer of Wheatland, Wyo., and to this union was born one son, Buddy. The family moved to Cheyenne a few years later when Dean got a job with the Wyoming Highway Department.

Realizing this was not his long term career goal, Dean went back to school. He became a land appraiser and shared an office with Dick Goodman in Cheyenne. For the next 25 or more years Dean traveled the state of Wyoming walking and learning the land.

But the family ranch was his ultimate dream, and that became a reality in 1982. In 1993 he was able to retire and move back to Fosher's Hidden Valley Ranch. There he lived out his dream and worked hard improving the ranch and raising quality steers. Ranching was the love of his life.

Illness forced Dean off the ranch in 2014. He spent the remainder of his life at the Niobrara Health and Life Center, where he received excellent care.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Vernal Fosher, and one brother, Raime Fosher.

He is survived by one son, Harold 'Buddy' Fosher, his wife, Sue, and four grandchildren: Savannah, Shiloh, Cody, and Isaiah.

Dean's family would like to thank Will and Darlene Adams for their years of service to Dean and the family ranch; Kelly and Alexa Kennedy for including him in their lives; and Ron Spaulding for being a loyal and faithful friend.

A special thank you to Pastor Mark Lohr for his spiritual guidance, faithful prayers, and friendship to Dean through the years.

Per his request, Dean will be laid to rest in Dellview Cemetery, Manville, Wyo., next to his paternal grandparents, Matt and Molly Fosher.

Memorials may be made in Dean's name to the Church of Christ, Lusk, Wyoming.

Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
