Rachel Eberspecher

Memorial service was conducted here Friday for Rachel E. Eberspecher, 63, who died at the Niobrara Nursing Home May 27 following a lingering illness.

Rachel Elizabeth was born January 21, 1917, to Ralph Edward and Anna Elizabeth Dunkin in Harrison. She attended Harrison schools graduating from Sioux County High School in 1934.

September 20, 1934, Rachel and Clarence Theodore "Ted" Eberspecher were married in Chadron. In October they moved to a homestead in Converse County. Their two oldest children were born there.

The family was at home on various ranches in Lance Creek. In 1954 they moved to Sheridan County where they operated a hay farm until moving to Lusk and operating the Lusk Mobil station until they retired in 1973.

According to the family, "Rachel's greatest joys were her grandchildren, garden and flowers and she loved to camp and fish." As a girl she was a member of the Methodist Church in Harrison and in 1979 she was baptized.

The Rev. Frank Blish officiated at the memorial service held Friday at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Organist was Edna DeCastro and Marilyn Cockreham sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Pallbearers were William Bourret, David Shaw, Richard Mike Eberspecher, Clyde Robertson, Ronald Garriott and Jerry Eberspecher.

Honorary bearers were Mrs. Eberspecher's grandchildren, Rhonda Grogin, Rexanne East, Tammy Johnson, Trenton Ellis, Richard Almazon and Cherokee Engebretsen.

A memorial has been established to the Niobrara Nursing Home "where she received loving and kind care," said the family.

Mrs. Eberspecher is survived by her husband Ted of Lusk; four daughters, Meredith Johnson, Ogden, Utah, Teddie Lou Ellis, Newcastle, Lynn Faye Engebretsen, Douglas and Gail Haas, Scottsbluff; two sisters Leona Clevenver, Pamona, Calif., and Hazel Garriott, Casper; a brother, Lynn Dunkin, Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
