Wendell Geike, 74, of Lusk passed away at his home on Sunday evening, July 1, 2001, following a fall and causing a head injury. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The body has been cremated.
Wendell Fredrick Geike was born on February 5, 1927 to Henry and Orpha Keebler in Harrison, Nebraska. He was named after Doctor Wendell Priest. He lived north of Harrison with his parents and grandparents. He attended three different country schools. The first one at the War Bonnet Ranch. He and his brother and sister had to walk a mile through the bare old Badlands to school. One winter school was held in their own home.
His playmates were snakes, lizards, and wild rabbits. He enjoyed fishing and riding horses. He broke horses to ride and rode at rodeos. He rode bareback horses for several summers. He didn't make much money but had a lot of fun. His first car was a 1935 green Olds convertible with a rumble seat in back.
Wendell married Anita Johnston in Harrison, Nebraska on June 19, 1949. He worked on several ranches in Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana and New Mexico. In 1958 he went to work in the oil patch at Sidney, Nebraska and Rock Springs, Wyoming. In 1967 they moved to Niobrara County. He worked for Richard Pfister, Sr. out on the ranch west of Redbird. He later worked near Lance Creek and Lusk
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Herbert and one step brother.
Wendell is survived by his wife Anita of Lusk; two daughters, Sandra and her husband Lance Elliottt of Gallup, NM; Lorraine Geike of Riverton, WY; two sons, Lyle and his wife Sherri of Rock Springs, WY and Dale of Lanagan, Mo. He is survived by five grandchildren, Ann Geike, Alan Geike, Jamie Geike, Michelle Puder and Greg Puder, one brother Howard of Edgerton, WY and one sister, Vesta Hutchison of Dubois, WY.
Cicmanec- Pier Funeral Home in Lusk is in charge of the arrangements.

A memorial service for Wendell Geike, who passed away on July 1, 2001, will be held at St. Leo's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2001.
