Tom Hammell, Edgemont, Dies Burial in Lusk

Thomas (Tom) James Hammell, 65, died in Casper September 29. Funeral service was held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Mortuary in Lusk.

The Rev. Roy Brown of the Congregational Church at Edgemont officiated. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Dr. James Bastian of Edgemont sang "In the Garden", "Goodby Here, Good Morning Up There" and "How Great Thou Art". He was accompanied by Mrs. Bastian on the organ.

Casket bearers were Franklin Manke, Joe Kane, Ralph Foreman, James Coates, Allen Coates, and Grant Sutherland.

Thomas James Hammell was born November 10, 1906, on the home ranch at Spencer, Wyo. He received his education in the Cheyenne River rural school.

He was married to Geneve Black on Dec. 21, 1929, at Hot Springs, S. D. They lived on the home ranch and ranched with his father and brother.

In the fall of 1947 he moved with his family into Edgemont, S. D. He started working for the South Dakota State Highway Department in Edgemont in June of 1951 and was still in their employment at the time of his death. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge and had served as Noble Grand and held other offices.

Survivors include his widow and four sons, Jim D., Fort Pierre, S. D., Richard L. and William A., Casper, and Benjamin, Riverton, 11 grandchildren and a sister Doris Bolin of Ketchikan, Alaska. His parents and a brother Harold died previously.
