Hazel Hammer

Hazel Hammer, age 84, of Douglas formerly of Lusk, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2000 at The Michael Manor in Douglas. A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday at the Lusk Cemetery. Pastor Tom Stock of the First Baptist Church in Lusk will be officiating.

She was born on December 12, 1915 near Petersburg, Nebraska to Joe and Hattie Paschal Leimser.

The family moved to Wyoming in 1927, homesteading North of Lusk in the Buck Creek Hills in 1928. She attended Booster School and the Rough Rock School through eighth grade.

She married Wayne Hammer on December 21, 1936 at Hot Springs, South Dakota. They spent most of their married life working on ranches.

They moved to Lusk in 1954. Hazel and Wayne worked for Niobrara County as janitors for the courthouse and resided in the courthouse basement in an apartment. When Wayne passed away in 1970, Hazel moved in with her mother and her brother Dean. She resided there until her move to Michael Manor in 1993. Hazel worked for the Covered Wagon Motel for several years and also worked part-time at the Ladies Lounge until it closed.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law Joe and Alice Leimser of Lusk, three nieces; Elenor Aamodt of Lusk, Naomi Lorenzen of Glenrock and JoAnn Jackson of Casper. One nephew, David Leimser of Lusk; three great nieces; four great nephews, three great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers Dale and Dean.

Memorials may be made to the Michael Manor Nursing Home, 1180 Birch Street, Douglas, Wyoming or the Niobrara County Senior Center.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
