Bertha Christina Hansen

Memorial services for Bertha Christina Hansen, 84, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Thermopolis, Wyo. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services with inurnment will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2002, at the Lusk Cemetery.

Bertha Hansen died June 26, 2002, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center, in Casper, following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 13, 1918, in Antioch, Neb., to Frank Ernest and Edith (Kittelmen) Demmer. The family moved to Manville and farmed until they purchased and operated the Keeline Telephone Exchange. She attended grade school at Keeline, cooked for hay crews and the Lusk Hospital until graduating from Manville High School.

On August 22, 1937, she married Carl Christian Hansen in Lusk. They subleased the Royal Hotel in Cheyenne until 1942, then operated a ranch near Keeline. In 1948, with Carl's brother, they opened "Hansen Hardware & Furniture" in Thermopolis. Later they purchased and operated the Package Liquor Store until retiring in 1967. They traveled extensively, spending several winters in Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

She was active as a Sunday School teacher and member of the Lutheran Missouri Synod Church. She was a member of Homemaking Extension Club, the 5280 Club and was a 4-H leader. She loved her role as a homemaker, and was devoted to making a loving, Christian home for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, and son Harry Charles.

Survivors include a son, Harold E. Hansen of Thermopolis; a grandson, Chris Hansen of Casper; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother John R. Demmer of Douglas, and a sister, Vera Bredthauer of Lusk.
