Services for Mrs. Harwell Held Here Mon.

Graveside services for Emma Josephine Harwell, 81, was held in Lusk Monday, Feb. 2. The Rev. Dean Addington of St. George's Episcopal Church officiated. She died January 28 at San Joaquin, Fresno, Calif.

She was the daughter of Ellis and Johanna Johnson and was born in Lusk July 18, 1888. She was educated in Wyoming schools and moved to California after completing graduate work at Columbia University, New York. She was a supervisor-instructor of commercial subjects in Berkeley High School and the University of California in Berkeley. She taught 45 years before retiring to Fresno three years ago.

Mrs. Harwell was a sister to the late "Yoy" and "Petty" Johnson. Their father Ellis came to this country in 1880 and had the first store in the town of Runnning Water which later was named Lusk. This was six years before the coming of the railroad.

She married Charles A. Harwell in August of 1923. He died in 1964.

Survivors include one son Dean Harwell, Dean of boys at Kings Canyon Junior High School at Fresno; one daughter Roberto Weaver, Columbia, Mo.; seven grandchildren; four nieces, Mrs. Ihla Anderson, Mrs. Aveley Outhouse, Miss Ruth Johnson and Grace Johnson, all of Lusk; one nephew, Roy Johnson of Lusk.
