Howard Harold Haworth

Howard Harold Haworth, area resident for nearly 40 years, died at his home in Lusk October 9.

Haworth, son of Lauren W. and Villa M. (Rizor) was born November 24, 1917, at Andrews, Neb., and grew up to manhood and attended school in Sioux County.

On December 14, 1936 he and Clara Zimmerman of Harrison were married. They were the parents of two children, Irvin Duane and Villa Mable.

Haworth worked on various ranches in Nebraska until 1943 when he moved to Keeline working for Frank and Everette Brooks until 1945. He then moved to the Kirtley community where he worked for Ray Christian until 1952. In 1952 Haworth began working for Wyoming Gas Company and continued working for Petrolane Gas Co. in Lusk and the surrounding area until 1967 when he moved to Meeteetse working at various ranches. He returned to Lusk in 1970 and resumed employment at Petrolane until 1974 when he became self-employed. Haworth semi-retired in 1979.

Funeral service was this Tuesday at Peet Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Kelley officiating.

Minerva Watson was organist while Marilyn Cockreham sang "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Active casket bearers were Harold Darnall, Glen Parmely, Richard Schnorenberg, Frank Fleck, Kent Predmore and Melvin Thayer.

Interment was in Lusk Cemetery with graveside service given by the B.P.O. Elks. Mr. Haworth was a member of the Lusk Elks Lodge. Memorials may be sent to Niobrara County Hospital or Niobrara Nursing Home.

Haworth was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Mable Sailors Haworth, a sister, Margaret Evelyn, a brother, Harry, and son Irvin Duane.

He is survived by his wife Clara, daughter Villa M. Rea and son-in-law Tom A. Rea and one granddaughter Clara Jo Sanderson, all of Lusk, two grandsons Jon Howard of Gillette and William Allen of Lost Springs, one great granddaughter Tomi Ann Sanderson, two brothers Bill of Node and Kenneth of Whittier, Calif., one stepsister Mary Waltz, Whittier; one stepbrother Roger Sailors, Huntington Beach, Calif., four aunts and numerous nieces and nephews.

"He could never say no to a friend, and no one will be missed more. All of his many friends are honorary bearers," said his wife Clara.
