Ellen Marie Hansen was born on June 15, 1920, to Anthon and Gertrude (Larsen) Hansen in Lusk. Marie grew up on her family's ranch and attended rural school in Node.

She attended high school in Lusk where she worked for a family for her room and board. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1936. As a young woman, she typed menus for her meals, worked as an usher at the Mesa Theater in Douglas and was a legal secretary for Mr. Barrett, a prominent attorney in Eastern Wyoming.

She married (Chester) Francis Golden on August 9, 1941, in Scottsbluff, Neb. During World War II they relocated to Utah where they worked at Hill Air Force Base.

Upon returning to Lusk in 1945, they became partners in The Best Cafe. From 1946 through 1953, four children were born; DeAnn, Ronnie, Keith and Dean. Due to Francis' health, a move was made to Apple Valley, Calif., in May 1955. Marie went to work at the Malt shop in the village, then, at George Air Force Base as a secretary.

In November of 1956, Greta was added to the family. Marie then provided day care for many children in her home. She worked in the cafeteria at Yucca Loma Elementary School and sold World Book Encyclopedias.

In 1970, she obtained her Real Estate License and helped run the family business, Chet Golden Real Estate, until their retirement in 1983.

Marie served on the Yucca Loma PTA board between 1960 and 1968. As a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, she prepared the Sunday church bulletin and together with Chet acted as Financial Treasurer for several years. She volunteered as a precinct worker and organized many elections. She also volunteered her time to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.

Marie spent many hours creating beautiful needlework, which won her many awards at the county fair. She presented each of her grandchildren with a beautifully embroidered tablecloth.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Anthon and Gertrude Hansen, her siblings, Glen, Carl, Ernie and Katherine (Wood) Hansen and her husband, Chester Francis Golden
