Pat Smith

Pat Smith, age 74, of Lusk passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 26, 2006, near Glendo. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, June 2, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Lusk with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Interment will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.

Patricia Ruffing Smith was born September 26, 1931, in Lusk, to William Jennings and Bess Antice Ruffing. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1949. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles (Chuck) Smith on October 26, 1949. They worked on various ranches around the county until their oldest daughter was ready to start school. At that time, they moved to Lusk. She was a stay at home mom for a few years and then went to work for the State of Wyoming as a secretary for the Niobrara Family Services and later became a Public Assistance Worker. She retired after 19 years.

After retirement. she volunteered her time at the Niobrara Senior Center once a week as a receptionist and served two years on the Board of Directors as Treasurer. She was active in the Lusk BPO Does # 64 and served as secretary for 19 years. Her retirement years were spent doing her knitting and crocheting where she was delighted in making afghans for the Wyoming State Elks Past Exhausted Rooster charity auctions. She also enjoyed camping with her husband and their little dog Teddy.

Pat is survived by her husband of 57 years; three daughters, Fran Albertson and her husband Ron of Rapid City, S.D., Jackie Rhoades and her husband Mark of Longmont, Colo, Vickie Jordan and her husband Steve of Douglas, two sons, Charles (Lee) and his wife Dee of Navarre, Fla., Stan and his wife Carol of San Antonio, Texas; her mother Bess Ruffing of Lusk; two sisters, Mary Ogle and her husband Russ of Sutherland Springs, Texas, Judy Sherer of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, John Ruffing of Lusk, Jennings Ruffing, JR. of Medford, Ore.; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson Neil, her father and her grandparents.

A memorial has been established to the Lusk Elks local scholarship fund and the Niobrara Senior Center in Lusk.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
