Bennett "Ben" F. Higinbotham

Bennett Francis Higinbotham, 76, died May 25, 1997 at Aurora Regional Medical Center in Colorado from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

Burial will be May 29 at 2 p.m. at the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials are to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children or to an organization of the donor's choice.

He was born Dec. 17, 1920, to Arthur O. and Mary F. Higinbotham in Worcester, Mass. The family moved to Denver when Bennett was six weeks old because of his health.

He spent his life in Englewood and Denver, graduating from East High School in 1939.

He served four and a half years in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater and was honorably discharged as a Tech Sgt.

For 55 years his career was as an auto parts salesman for Foster Auto Supply and C&F Auto Parts.

His life long hobby was woodworking, which he began in junior high school and continued until his health failed last year.

He also enjoyed working outside and visiting and working at the DeGering Ranch near Lusk.

He belonged to DeMolay and went on to join the Masonic Order (Weston Lodge 22 A.F.&A.M.) in June of 1943. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Consistory and was active in the Mobil Nobles interbody of the El Jebel Shrine. He had been a member of the Leyden-Chiles-Wickersham American Legion Post #1 for 51 years.

He married Esther DeGering Oct. 5, 1947, at the Congregational Church in Lusk.

Survivors include his wife; daughters Denise (Reed) Smith of Lusk, Joni (Grady) Wilson of Wichita, Kan., Jaci (Mark) Titchener of Cheyenne; grandchildren Matt and Danny Titchener, Erin, Justin and Clay Smith; and twin sister Edna Ramsey of Aurora.

He was preceded in death by brother Kenneth and sisters Marjorie Vincent and Barbara.
