Herman Hitz Dies In Lusk Thursday

Herman C. Hitz, 65, of Lusk, died at his home Thursday from a cardiac condition. Rosary services were held Monday at 8:00 p.m. at Peet Chapel. Requiem High Mass was sung Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church with Rev. M. J. McBrien officiating. Graveside military honors were accorded the deceased by the American Legion Post No. 4. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Harry Austin, James Barrett, William Glendy, Joseph Pfister, Paul Pfister, Wilford Wasserburger.

Herman C. Hitz was born February 9, 1893 at Tulare, S. D., the eighth child of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hitz, Sr. He came to Lusk with his parents in 1909 and later homesteaded north of Lusk in the Hat Creek Community.

He served in World War I and was a member of the Lusk American Legion Post and the Knights of Columbus Council in Cheyenne.

He married Mrs. Rose C. Oates August 20, 1938 in Hot Springs. Survivors include his wife; three step sons, S/Sgt. Albert Oates, Lt. Richard Oates, S/P4 William Oates; a brother Walter Hitz; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Haight and Mrs. Emerson Himes. Three nephews, eight nieces and three grandchildren also survive. A brother Ewald A. Hitz preceded him in death September 12.

The family requested that there be no flowers and established a memorial fund for St. Joseph's Orphanage at Torrington.

Roberts, Spearfish, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Frosheiser, Cody; Mrs. Menlo Snyder, Seymour Snyder, Newcastle; Mr. and Mrs. Charles McLean, Alliance and Mrs. Ruth Lamb and daughter of Casper.
