Nellie Johnston, Former County Assessor, Dies
Graveside service was held at 4:00 p.m. May 20 at the Lusk Cemetery for Miss Nellie E. Johnston, 74, who died May 16 at Curtis, Neb.
Funeral service was held in the morning May 20 at the United Methodist Church in Mullen, Neb., where she had made her home for many years.
Miss Johnston was born March 4, 1900, near Havensville, Kan. to Adam and Ida Johnston.
She attended school in Kansas and graduated from the Grand Island School of Business. She was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper in Mullen for many years.
Miss Johnston lived in Lusk from 1925-1936 helping in the store owned by her father A. E. Johnston. He was elected Niobrara County Assessor and at his death she took over the office and served out his term and an additional term before leaving Lusk.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, the Rebekah and Eastern Star in Mullen.
She made her home with her sister, Mary Gugelman at Curtis, Neb., following her retirement.
She was survived by her sister, and several nieces and nephews.
