Last Rites Held For Mabel Jordan

Mrs. Mabel Jordan, 79, widow of Emmett Jordan of Miles City, Mont., died November 11 in a hospital there. She will be known here as Mabel Hunter, sister of Oressa Jordan, Margaret Dunn, Jack and Tom Hunter. Her father was John Hunter who served as one of the early judges of Sioux County.

Funeral services were held November 14 in Sacred Heart Church with rosary recited the evening before. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Jordan was born in Bodarc, Neb., Jan. 14, 1890, and married Emmett Jordan at Harrison on February 20, 1908. They moved to Custer County, Mont., the following summer traveling overland from Nebraska with a team and buckboard, saddle horses, and camping outfit, the trip taking seven days.

They homesteaded on Fallon Creek where they lived until 1915. That year they moved to Ismay where they operated a dray line, livery and feed barn. From 1949 to 1954 they lived in Deer Lodge where he was a guard at Montana State Prison, and from 1955-57 at Lewistown where he was deputy sheriff. They returned to Miles City in 1957. He died May 1, 1969.

Surviving are four sons, Larry of Roy, Mont., Mike of Spokane, Wash., David of Helena, and Charles of Kirby, Mont.; two daughters, Mrs. Sadie Burdick of Spokane, and Mrs. John (Frances) LaBree, of Ismay, Mont.; one brother Tom Hunter of Casper; one sister. Myrtle Points of Rushville, Nebr., 14 grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren

Interment was in the family lot of Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Ed Jordan, Emmett LaBree, Jordan LaBree, Larry LaBree, all grandsons, and Jim Stanley and Ed May.
