Venus C. Kilmer

Services for Venus C. Kilmer, age 85, were conducted Tuesday, June 28, 1994, at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Kilmer died June 25 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born October 7, 1908, to John Wesley and Paulina Close Kilmer in Kilmer Valley near Arnold, Neb.

In 1935, he married Ruth Janette Medlin of Arnold. They moved to Lusk, Wyo., in 1937 where he owned and operated a barber shop in partnership with Joe Curry. In 1942, he and four of his brothers, Willis, Roscoe, Idris and Myron formed the Kilmer Corporation, including the Kilmer Creamery and a number of other retail businesses around the state. Venus managed the Kilmer Dairy Farm and started Silver Springs Ranch raising purebred Arabian horses and Angus cattle. Venus was one of the original directors of the Stockman's National Bank of Lusk, where he served for 30 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Clarence, Willis, Roscoe and Idris; and a sister Mary Atteberry.

Survivors include his wife Ruth; two sons, Karvin of Denver, Colo., and Rick of Douglas, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Kary, Kendal, Derren and Alisa; a brother Myron, of Mills, Wyo.; faithful friend and helper, Penny; and scores of wonderful friends.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.
