Emily Jane Kaan

Funeral services for Emily Jane Kaan, 62, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1992, at the Congregational Church in Lusk with Rev. Allen Kallenbach officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Kaan died Friday, Feb. 21, 1992, at Riverton. She was born April 16, 1929, at Goodland, Kan., the daughter of Clarence and Lola Matter Mangus.

She married Cecil Butler Kaan on June 29, 1947, in Lusk, Wyo. They made their home on a ranch near Keeline, Wyo., and later moved to the Kaan Ranch southeast of Lusk where they lived until they retired. At that time they moved into Lusk.

Kaan was a member of the Congregational Church, a member of PEO, a Past Matron of the Niobrara Chapter of Eastern Star and at the time of her death, was serving as secretary on the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital Board. She was an avid and accomplished bridge player.

Her most remembered gifts will be her creativity and willingness to help people. Her greatest love was her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed golfing, genealogy, sewing and stained glass.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil, of Lusk; one son, Richard Kaan of Harrison, Neb.; one daughter, Janet Cunningham of Glenrock; her mother, Lola Mangus, of Lusk; four grandchildren and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital will be appreciated by the family.

Bader-Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
