Ambrose Martin Kinney

Private services will be held for Ambrose Martin Kinney, 83, of Guernsey. Mr. Kinney died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

He was born Sept. 18, 1916 in Spaulding, Neb., the son of John Martin and Ina (Wise) Kinney. He was reared and educated in the Spaulding area. Ambrose married Esther Vierk in Harrison, Neb., on April 13, 1940.

He joined the United States Army in 1944 and after his discharge he worked in the Civil Conservation Corps around Lake Guernsey.

Ambrose and Esther made their home in Lusk from 1940-1966 and then he was transferred with his job as a propane gas serviceman to Gardner, Mont. They were in Gardner about 12 years when he retired and moved to Livingston for a couple of years. They then moved to Carson City, Nev., and were there from 1987 until 1992 when they moved to Guernsey to retire close to home.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Kinney is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Esther of Guernsey; five children; Karen Pluntz of St. John's, Ariz.; Kenneth Michael Kinney of Carson City, Nev.; Patricia McCoy of Guernsey; Janice Lockett of Fort Worth, Texas; and Gene Kinney of Sparks, Nev.; a sister Cecelia Shafer of Casper; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mary McFarland, Doris Lewis and Bernice Nier; one granddaughter, and two great grandchildren.

Memorials to the Guernsey Senior Citizen's Center, 100 S. Wyoming Ave., Guernsey, WY 82214 or the Guernsey Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 702, Guernsey, WY 82214 would be appreciated by the family.

Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of the arrangements.
