Anna R. Kolego Dies at Age 79

Mrs. Anna R. Kolego, 79, died Saturday in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. She had been a resident of this county since 1921.

Funeral services were held from St. Leo's Catholic Church Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Cornelius O'Connor conducting Requiem High Mass. Pallbearers were former neighbors and long time acquaintances - Joe Traphagan, Bus Penfield, Roscoe Ross, Frank Johnston, Zeb Ward and Walt Swope.

She was born Anna R. Brook in Detroit, Mich., on September 29, 1885, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Felix Mathew Brook. When she was a year old the family moved to Chicago where she received her education and married Louis Pelic on September 22, 1907. Four children were born to them.

Later the family moved to Wyoming to homestead in 1921 and she has remained here since. For the past eight years she lived in Lusk, the last year with the Willie Almazan family. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by a son, Henry Kolego of Silverton Colo.: a daughter, Laura Dixon of Lance Creek; two sisters in Chicago and a brother in Los Angeles: nine grandchildren - Miriam, Henry Jr. and Sally Kolego of Silverton, Colo., Jess Rodgers of Casper, William Rodgers of Denver, and John, James, Ann and Mary Kolego of Casper. There are five great-grandchildren.

A son Francis and a daughter Wanda died previously.

Note: The cemetery records indicate that Anna R. Kolego died on September 3, 1965, which would have been a Friday. The above indicates it was a Saturday. After checking, it was also discovered that The US Social Security Index lists her birthday as September 29, 1887. Other information found in research suggests that she was born in Russia, and her last name was Broucka (also found Bovicka and Borucka) and was later changed to Brook. She immigrated with her parents in 1888. After her divorce from Ludvick (Ludwig, Louis) Pelic, she changed her last name and her children's last names to Kolego, which was her mother's maiden name.
